State of Charge Indicator (SOCI)

Most rechargeable, and many advanced non-rechargeable, standard Army batteries contain a State of Charge Indicator (SOCI). The SOCI provides a percentage estimate of the remaining capacity in a battery. Below are some common examples of indicators that you may encounter, other batteries in inventory may have the same or similar indicators. Activation instructions (if applicable) and keys for their interpretation will be printed on the battery.

Note: While an effort has been made to calibrate these indicators for varying usage scenarios and environmental conditions, they should be relied upon only as an approximation of remaining capacity.

BA-XXXX

The SOCI on the BA-XXXX consists of 5 green lights and is activated by depressing a button the battery. The longer the button is held down, the brighter the lights become.

How to Read

5 lights ≥ 90%
4 lights ≥ 70%
3 lights ≥ 50%
2 lights ≥ 30%
1 light ≥ 10%
0 lights < 10%.

BB-XXXX

The SOCI on the BB-XXXX is an ‘always on’ display consisting of 5 black bars.

Note: The SOCI bars on the BB-XXXX are scaled to the full charge capacity of the battery when it was new. As the battery ages and wears out, the full charge indicator may not show up when the battery is fully charged and removed from the charger; this is an indication of 20% permanently lost capacity from the battery and it is time to consider replacement.

How to Read

5 bars ≥ 81%
4 bars ≥ 61%
3 bars ≥ 41%
2 bars ≥ 21%
1 bar ≥ 1%
0 bars = 0%.

BB-XXXX Conformal Wearable Battery (CWB)

The CWB has a smart display which is activated by pressing a button.

How to Read

The display will provide a digital readout of the battery’s state of charge. Additional information about the the battery can also be accessed with additional presses of the button.
